Amazing footage captures dolphins spotted in the Firth of Forth just off North Berwick coast

Incredible footage captured out at sea shows a pod of dolphins in the Firth of Forth off the coast of North Berwick, in East Lothian.

Colin Macleod, a skipper with Seafari Adventures, shot the video during one of the company's tours to visit the gannet colony, near the island of Craigleith yesterday morning heading east.

Speaking to Edinburgh Live, he said: "Sightings of dolphins in our area are getting more and more common over the last few years to the point where last year we where seeing them almost everyday.

"I feel this is testimony to the waters in the Firth of Forth getting cleaner and cleaner and attracting more marine animals from further afield into our waters including several mother's with calves.

Adding: "Sometimes I have to shake myself about what a fantastic area we live in for wildlife - not only with dolphins, seals, whales and puffins but also having the largest colony on the planet is a incredible thing that helps put us on the map.

"The fact that it is only a 30 minute train journey from a major city makes it all that more special."

Bottlenose dolphins can be found all around the UK, with the Moray Firth in Scotland one the best places to spot them.

They are social animals typically found in small groups and can live for up to 45-50 years.
