Amazing costumes from first day of EM-Con at Nottingham's Motorpoint Arena

EM-Con's Couple tie the knot as Harley Quinn and White Power Ranger at Nottingham's Em-Con may have stolen the show this year but there were plenty amazing handmade costumes worthy of a podium prize.

From Mary Poppins and Bert to a bite-size Stormtrooper, cosplayers pulled out all the stops for the East Midlands' largest TV and film convention at the Motorpoint Arena today (May 4).

Attendee Andy Freeman spent an hour covering himself in bright blue face paint in a bid to transform himself into the Beast from X-Men.

"It's my third time here and each time my Beast costume evolves," the 35-year-old, of Coventry said.

"It's the best convention of its kind in the country. I just met Nick Frost and I will remember that moment for the rest of my life," he added.

Taking place across two days (May 4-5) this year's event included guest stars Nicholas Brendon (Buffy the Vampire Slayer heart-throb), Nottingham's own star of Bodyguard Anjli Mohindra and Green Power Ranger Jason David Frank.

Friends Tracey Lovell, 36, and Mark Humphries, 50, paired up to arrive as Mary Poppins and Bert.

Tracey, of Corby, spent a year designing and creating her practically perfect homage to Julie Andrews' most -oved nanny.

But why Mary?

"Who wouldn't want to be Mary Poppins?" she said.

Little Alfie-Joe Wilson, of Clifton,  has been coming to EM-Con with his parents since he was too young to remember.

Now five, he chose to come as a Stormtrooper.

"It's Star Wars day and I love Star Wars," he said.
