What started out as a fun hobby could potentially become a lucrative business for East Kilbride’s ‘drone guy’.
These spectacular aerial view shots of the town were captured by East Mains dad Ross Downie.
The 45-year-old bricklayer treated himself to a DJI Mini 2 drone a year ago to capture unique bird’s eye views of his hometown and has since amassed more than 1000 followers on his dedicated Facebook page East Kilbride by Drone .
He told Lanarkshire Live : “I had an interest in basic photography and enjoy taking pictures so treated myself.
“I was going around doing my own thing and posting pictures to my page when I got a request from a guy in America to send him a shot of his old street.

“I only made the page to get free storage for the footage and it’s took off from there.
“I get requests all the time but I don’t want to be classed as a spy snooping in people’s gardens so I just do areas – there’s a fine line!”
Ross has travelled the length and breadth of the town in a mission to snap the most iconic areas of East Kilbride, including: James Hamilton Heritage Park, the High Point in Greenhills – East Kilbride’s highest point – and the Water Tower.

And the amateur photographer has experienced more than a few mishaps along the way.
Ross added: “I flew it up near the tax office one day and crashed it into a tree. It was trapped there for two days. I had to borrow someone’s ladders to get it down.”
Ross’ page also caught the attention of St Hilary’s Primary which has commissioned him to capture its 50th anniversary celebrations from the air.
He said: “I would consider doing it as a part-time business if I got more interest, but for now it’s just a hobby.”
