A group of amateur internet sleuths are attempting to solve one of Stockport’s great modern-day mysteries — a bizarre ringing sound which can be heard in the town centre.
The Facebook group called ‘What’s That Noise Stockport?’ has been tracking the noise for almost a month now.
However, they are yet to identify its cause.

“I live in Stockport, right by the town centre,” its founder, Caroline Doyle, told the Manchester Evening News. “There is a loud ringing sound that has been troubling me for months now — it goes off every minute.
“I have started a group on Facebook called What’s That Noise in Stockport... [I] would love the mystery solved.”
Using the group, members share videos of recordings of the audible ring — with one even filming herself trying to track it down across the town centre.
In the video, Caroline follows the noise from near the M60 throughout the town’s shopping district and St Peter’s Square.
“It’s coming from the sky!” she explains.
She goes on: “It’s getting closer guys. What is it?
“Just got to wait around for it.
“It’s far away again!”, she concludes.
Despite the group’s investigation producing limited results, the founder has started to come up with her own, as yet unproven theory — that is literally out of this world.
“I’m sure it’s a UFO,” she said.
“It goes off every minute.”
