Amanda Seyfried has refused to apologise for comments about Charlie Kirk.
The 40-year-old actress branded the right-wing activist "hateful" on Instagram after he was shot dead at the age of 31 on September 10 during a campus debating session with students.
Speaking to Who What Wear magazine, she said: "I’m not f****** apologising for that. I mean, for f***’s sake, I commented on one thing.
"I said something that was based on actual reality and actual footage and actual quotes. What I said was pretty damn factual, and I’m free to have an opinion, of course."
However, she did make a post in the wake of her original comment, in which she urged people to remember the concept of "nuance".
She wrote at the time: "We're forgetting the nuance of humanity.
"I can get angry about misogyny and racist rhetoric and ALSO very much agree that Charlie Kirk's murder was absolutely disturbing and deplorable in every way imaginable.
"No one should have to experience this level of violence. This country is grieving too many senseless and violent deaths and shootings.
"Can we agree on that at least?"
Now, the Mamma Mia star has explained in the new interview that she shared the statement to make sure she wasn't being taken out of context.
She added: "Thank God for Instagram. I was able to give some clarity, and it was about getting my voice back because I felt like it had been stolen and recontextualised – which is what people do, of course."
Meanwhile, Amanda insisted she usually tries to "stay out of drama", and sympathises with the amount of attention and criticism The Housemaid co-star Sydney Sweeney gets on social media.
She said: "If social media was the way it is now when I was in my 20s, I don't know how I would have fared.
"I stay out of drama. I try to stay out of the fray, but anywhere she goes, she's in the fray, and that's not necessarily up to her."
