Amanda Serrano will demand a bigger purse if her mega-fight with Katie Taylor is in the UK says her manager Jordan Maldonado.
Both women looked set to go head-to-head in New York in April in a showdown expected to generate the biggest purse in female boxing history.
But they could now meet in London or Manchester, and that’s doesn’t suit Serrano’s team because the Puerto Rico-born fighter has mandatory defence obligations.
“They made us an offer, and we accepted it, but the contract stipulated that the fight would be in April. Now the rumours are that it won’t be until May,” he said.
“Amanda has a world title defence due. We have 180 days to defend and if the Taylor fight is in late May, we would be in danger of not complying.”
Two-weight world light and light-welter champion Taylor trounced Serrano’s sister Cindy in 2018.
Taylor was subjected to thrash talk from Maldonado, husband of Cindy Serrano, during that fight.
“We were ready for April, but they sent a message that for that month it is not going forward. Now we will be waiting for Taylor’s promoters to renegotiate,” Maldonado added.
“If the fight is in the United Kingdom, the (purse) has to be bigger than the one offered in New York.
“Right now, there is no certainty that it will be done in April. Maybe in May, but we have to negotiate that because the WBO gave us a fight with Simone da Silva.
“According to them, Taylor is the superstar. It doesn’t matter if it’s in New York, Africa, Mars or Jupiter, we’re going to fight.”
