Amanda Nunes on Kayla Harrison’s free agency: ‘I hope she makes the right decision’

LAS VEGAS – Amanda Nunes fully supports her American Top Team teammate Kayla Harrison.

The current UFC women’s bantamweight and featherweight champion won’t tell Harrison how to manage her fighting career, but wherever Harrison goes next, Nunes hopes is the right decision for her.

“It’s up to her,” Nunes told MMA Junkie at a UFC 269 pre-fight news conference Wednesday. “Everybody knows of their own career. I hope she makes the right decision (whether) it’s with the UFC or in another promotion. I’m always going to treat her well. We train very good in the gym and we have much fun in the gym. So whatever she decides, that’s her business.”

A potential fight between Nunes and Harrison has been recent talk amongst fans and media. Harrison is officially a free agent after fighting out her contract with PFL in October. She is 11-0 as a professional fighter and is one of the most successful American judokas of all time – having won two Olympic gold medals and numerous international tournaments.

Meanwhile, Nunes, who defends her women’s 135-pound title this Saturday at UFC 269 against Julianna Pena, is regarded by many as the best female fighter of all time and currently rides an impressive 12-fight winning streak.

UFC 269 takes place Saturday at T-Mobile Arena. The main card streams on ESPN+ pay-per-view following prelims on ESPN and early prelims on ESPN+.
