Amanda Knox joked on social media as she after the death of British student Meridith Kercher.
The American was initially convicted of the 21-year-old student’s killing but was later acquitted following an appeal.
On Sunday she posted a picture on Instagram of herself clinging to a mountainside with a humorous caption.
She wrote: “3 Days till I return to Italy for the first time since leaving prison. Feeling frayed, so I made my own inspirational workplace poster. "Hang in there!" Just imagine I'm a kitten.”
She also posted a picture of herself smiling in the arms of her fiancé Christopher Robinson, writing “Here we go... Wish us, "Buon viaggio!”.
Buon viaggio is Italian for ‘have a good trip”.
Knox is scheduled to touch down in Italy today, where she is scheduled to participate in an event at the Criminal Justice Festival.
She is due to first visit Milan before heading to Modena.
Knox is not expected to visit the city of Perugia, the university city where Kercher was murdered.
While in Italy, Knox will be accompanied by her mother, Edda Mellas, as well as Robinson.
Knox, 31, previously sparked fury after saying she would like to visit Perugia where Meredith was killed saying it was a necessary step for her healing.
“The only way that I’m going to come full circle is by physically, literally, coming full circle,” she told America’s People magazine.
“I know that Perugia is probably the least welcome place for me in the entire world. And that’s scary, but it also means a lot to me, not to be afraid of a place and see Perugia through my family’s eyes.”
Knox, who now works as a journalist in Seattle, where she was born, had only been in Perugia a few months before Kercher was killed in November 2007 after having her that cut.
The American, who has now grown her hair longer to when she was labelled ‘Foxy Knoxy’, spent four years in prison before she was freed on appeal and then had her conviction quashed in 2015.
Police arrested Knox, then a 20-year-old student and her boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito after Kercher was found in her bedroom in the flat they shared.
Francesco Maresca, the Kercher family's lawyer, said Knox would not be welcome in the medieval city.
"I believe Amanda Knox's choice to return is totally inopportune because the death of Meredith was very painful for Perugia and people there feel they have never had a satisfactory response from the Italian justice system," he said.
"That is why Knox should think about her life without continuing to return to this sad affair from which she has been the only one to profit, both in terms of fame and money."
Knox is now living with Robinson, who she met after interviewing him and now planning to have children.
She said: “I don’t want to get married for the sake of getting married.
“My hope is that I have a partner with whom I can continue to take on the world.
