Amanda Holden's 'nan' in The Holden Girls confirmed as Keith Lemon star Leigh Francis

The identity of the actor playing Amanda Holden's nan in her new comedy series The Holden Girls: Mandy & Myrtle has finally been revealed.

Amanda's upcoming series will be in the style of a documentary and follows the star, her family and her nan, Myrtle.

As reported by the RadioTimes, Amanda's nan is played by the one and only Leigh Francis.

It was already claimed that the Keith Lemon star could possibly be taking the role as her nan, alongside other contenders Alan Carr and Ant McPartlin.

Fans have been guessing the identity of Myrtle, with one tweeting: "I'm certain Amanda Holden's 'nan' is really Keith Lemon aka Bo selecta in drag."

"Thought Amanda Holden’s Nan in the trailer for their show was a Keith Lemon character!" one user was convinced.

Another said: "There is no way that's Amanda Holden's nan! That's Keith Lemon!"

The series has Amanda persuading her grandma to move out of her home in Doncaster to live with her in London.

Britain's Got Talent judge Amanda, 50, has been playing the part with dedication and recently said of her 'nan': "I’m delighted that everyone is finally going to meet my nan, the apple never falls far from my tree and in this series, she will certainly be keeping me on my toes."

Amanda’s real-life nan was named Ethel Thomas but sadly died back in 2018 at the age of 97.

The eight-part spoof documentary-style programme first aired tonight after much anticipation.

Earlier today, Keith Lemon's official Twitter account also promoted the series.

"Dance for joy! The Holden Girls: Mandy & Myrtle starts tonight (Tuesday) E4 10pm," it was written alongside a video of Myrtle dancing.

Leigh's name also appeared on the credits after tonight's episode finished airing.

A second episode - which had Amanda and Myrtle embroiled in a tabloid scandal - aired right after the first at 10.35 pm.

The listing for the new E4 mockumentary series read: “Spoof documentary following actress and broadcaster Amanda Holden and her grandmother Myrtle, played by Leigh Francis.

“A concerned Amanda persuades her lonely nan to relocate from Doncaster to live with her in her swanky London house."

It continued: “Following a chaotic settling-in period, it isn’t long before tempers fray and Amanda is forced to choose between her husband and her awkward elder relative.”

The Holden Girls: Mandy & Myrtle airs on Tuesdays at 10pm on E4.
