Simon Cowell's close pal Amanda Holden has revealed she is "as shocked as Lauren" over his surprise engagement.
The Britain's Got Talent star, 50, spoke about Simon's secret proposal to his partner and mother of his son, Eric, during today's Heart Breakfast radio show.
Asked what she knows about the unexpected engagement by her co-star Jamie Theakston, Amanda laughed: "I have to say, I'm probably as shocked as Lauren!"
Showbiz reporter Ashley Roberts added: "Because Simon said he would never get married?"
"Simon said he would never get married, and obviously Lauren has been by his side and you now they've been through so much together, and I think she's the one, but I don't know if she ever thought he would put a ring on it!" Amanda told her.
Jamie gasped: "Wow," as Amanda added: "And then last night we all got the text saying, "It's happening" and we couldn't believe it, and I knew it would be in the papers today if we got the text last night. So I was like oh my goodness!"
Jamie quizzed if the wedding was going to happen this year.
Amanda responded: "I would love to think so. I't literally messaging them as we speak going, 'Do I need to book flights to Barbados because I want to get in before the prices go up, let me know'.
"Also I've got to book time off work, I've got to get a hat. I'm thinking who's going to look after the kids? Are the kids invited, now come on!"
Ashley said: "There are so many details still to find out."
Amanda agreed, adding: "Honestly, they need to think about the guests!"
It comes as Simon, 62, recently bent the knee and asked Lauren, 44, to become his wife.
Reports claim that the music mogul finally took the plunge to propose as he and Lauren holidayed in Barbados.
X-Factor boss Simon reportedly "stunned" Lauren by popping the question and that she said yes without a moment's thought.
An insider told The Sun : “Simon and Lauren are ridiculously, nauseatingly in love - incredibly, lockdown brought them closer than ever.
“Lauren was absolutely stunned and never in a million years expected Simon to pop the question. She burst into tears - happy tears - and obviously said ‘yes’ straight away.
The source added that smitten Lauren has been his "rock" - after he broke his back in 2020 - and that the former lothario knew he had to "put a ring on it" as Lauren is the "woman of his dreams."
