Amanda Holden explains surprise Britain's Got Talent semi-final changes

Britain's Got Talent semi-finals 2020 are officially upon us.

And while the nation can't wait for a dose of normality, the shows are set to look very different to what we know.

Firstly, Simon Cowell will not be on the judges panel for the first time after breaking part of his back following a bike accident.

The BGT semi-finals will also be without a live audience due to the coronavirus pandemic.

During an interview on ITV's Lorraine, judge Amanda Holden explained what the Britain's Got Talent semi-finals will look like and what to expect.

Surprise changes to BGT semi-final explained ahead of first show (ITV)

BGT judges panel

Many people tuning into the show will be wondering where Simon Cowell is.

The star of the show isn't making an appearance as he's recovering from a bike accident.

Speaking about his recovery, Amanda told ITV's Lorraine: "He is doing really well one of the producers actually told me that she had a conversation with him a couple of days ago and he's doing really well and sounding very healthy and happy.

"We just want him to take the time to take the time to recover."

She added: "I'm just glad he's got both his feet up and he's having a rest with his family."

Simon will be replaced by Amanda who will become head judge, taking her place is Diversity dancer Ashley Banjo.

The full judges panel will consist of Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon, David Walliams and Ashley Banjo who will be socially distanced on the show.

BGT audience

There will be no live audience due to the current climate but there will be a virtual one.

Amanda described it as a huge "Zoom call" when discussing the changes.

She said: "It's like a gigantic Zoom call, we've got like 100,000 thousand people or something silly behind us and they are all in the comfort of their own home.

"It's a bit like Gogglebox but they're only tuned into Britain's Got Talent."

Amanda added: "And the good thing for them is they get to see us doing the stuff we don't really want them to see, so they get quite a good insight into what actually goes in behind the scenes."
