Amanda Holden dons tiny Union Jack minidress to drum up luck for UK ahead of Eurovision

Amanda Holden isn’t just flying the flag for the UK this Eurovision weekend – she’s wearing it.

The 50-year-old TV sensation channelled her inner Geri Halliwell as she posed in a tiny Union Jack minidress on Friday night ahead of the imminent 65th Eurovision Song Contest.

Mandy paid tribute to the music competition as she shared the hope of the UK making at least one point when the singing begins in Rotterdam, Holland, on Saturday night.

Dressed by stylist to the stars, Frank Strachan – who has worked with Kylie Minogue and Steps – Amanda posed in her dress, a pair of simple black heels and in front of a mirror with the London skyline dramatically dropped behind her.

Mandy wrote alongside the eye-grabbing photo on Instagram : “Looking forward to making ‘un point’ or two at #Eurovision tomorrow.”

The Britain’s Got Talent judge looked reminiscent of Geri Halliwell when she wore her own iconic Union Jack minidress while performing with the Spice Girls at the Brit Awards in 1997.

And she will feature in the contest herself on Saturday night as she will be announcing the UK's votes.

Meanwhile, the UK’s 2021 Eurovision entrant is James Newman – who has been put forth to represent the nation a second time after the 2020 contest was cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The notoriously politically influenced competition could see post-Brexit Britain struggle to win support from the continent.

And indeed, bookmakers are giving Jame odds of just 200/1 of taking home the Eurovision crown.

It has been 24 years since the UK last won Eurovision – with Katrina and the Waves scoring the win in 1997 with the song Love Shine a Light.

The Netherlands are hosting the competition after their entrant, Duncan Laurence won the 2019 contest with the song Arcade.

Italy are hot favourites to win the 2021 contest with their group Maneskin who will be singing a song called Zitti e buoni.

While San Marino could be one to watch as they have successfully enticed chart topping American rap star Flo Rida to take part in their 2021 entry as a duet partner for singer Senhit and their son Adrenalina.

Eurovision will air on BBC One on Saturday night from 8pm to 11:45pm.
