Amanda Bynes speaks out to thank fans for supporting her bid to end conservatorship

Actress Amanda Bynes is due in court to ask a judge to end her conservatorship on 22 March.

The 35-year-old has been under a conservatorship since 2013, which means her mother Lynn controls all of her personal and medical decisions - as well as her financial affairs.

The conservatorship was due to end in 2020, but in September last year, it was extended until January 2023.

Amanda wants it to be ended sooner rather than later and filed a petition, last month, to terminate the legal agreement.

And ahead of the court date, the American star - who has starred in several teen movies and chick flicks throughout the 1990s and 2000s - has thanked her loyal followers for supporting her.

The former child star posted a brief video of herself on Instagram Monday, where she addressed the camera to share how she is grateful for support.

"What's up Instagram. Amanda Bynes here," she began.

Amanda - who began her career as a child actress, working on the Nickelodeon sketch comedy series All That - continued: "My court date is coming up in two weeks. I want to thank you all for your love and support. Peace out."

Page Six reported in February that Amanda requested to end both the conservatorship of her person and estate in a petition submitted in California.

She also filed a capacity declaration, which requires updated records regarding Amanda’s mental health from a medical professional.

Her attorney David A. Esquibias confirmed the news in a statement, and telling People : “Amanda wishes to terminate her conservatorship. She believes her condition is improved and protection of the court is no longer necessary.”

NBC News previously claimed that Amanda's parents are happy she wants to end the legal agreement.

The outlet reported that while Amanda’s parents do not plan to attend the upcoming virtual hearing, they support her decision to end the agreement.

"The parents are happy, thrilled to get this good news," the Bynes family's attorney, Tamar Arminak, told the publication. "The professionals say she is ready to make her own life choices and decisions and are so proud of her. They 100 percent support her decision to end the conservatorship."

Back in 2013, Amanda was arrested for allegedly starting a fire in the driveway of a home in California, which resulted in her being held for 72 hours in an involuntary psychiatric hold as a mental health evaluation was carried out.

The agreement was an emergency temporary conservatorship.

However, in October 2014, her mum was once again granted conservatorship of Amanda following the She's The Man actress being arrested for DUI, among other things.

The following month, Amanda shared on social media that she had been diagnosed with bipolar and manic-depressive disorder.
