Amanda Barrie reveals she electrocuted herself and 'lit up' her West End flat

Amanda Barrie gave herself a shock, quite literally, when she accidentally electrocuted herself.

The former Coronation Street star revealed on Twitter that she had to be rescued by the emergency services and received first aid treatment following the scary incident at her West End flat on Monday evening.

Amanda, 83, posted a picture stood next to five paramedics from London Ambulance services thanking them for their help.

Explaining what had happened she expressed her gratitude to her "five heroes" adding that it was "very scary" but she had thankfully recovered.

She wrote in the tweet shared with her 9,166 followers: "Thank you to my five heroes.

"So, last night I lit up the West End by electrocuting myself in my own flat. Eek! Magnificant #FirstResponders came to my rescue.

"Very scary but am still here, thanks also to @uclh God bless the @NHSuk."

EastEnders' June Brown, 92, is going blind and already unable to recognise pals

Amanda lives with wife Hilary Bonner and they have homes in London and Somerset.

The octogenarian appeared in Celebrity Big Brother last year confessing that she took part because the fee would be able to pay for her' care home bills' when the time came.

"I had no intention of doing it, but then I thought it could pay for my care home. It would be nice to have that independence."
