Amanda Abbington to star in UK premiere of Florian Zeller's The Son at Kiln Theatre

Sherlock star Amanda Abbington will star in the UK premiere of Florian Zeller’s The Son at Kiln Theatre.

Michael Longhurst will direct the play by French novelist and playwright Zeller, which pens next month.

It follows a family in the midst of a breakdown and the teenage son who grows ever more distant, exploring themes of mental illness and loss.

The Son completes a trilogy of plays following Olivier Award-winning The Father and The Mother, both of which ran at Kiln (then known as the Tricycle Theatre).

Abbington is joined by John Light, Oseloka Obi, Martin Turner, Amaka Okafor and Laurie Kynaston, with sound and composition by Isobel Waller-Bridge, design by Lizzie Clachan and lighting by Lee Curran.

The Son has been translated into English by Christopher Hampton, who has translated most of Zeller’s plays as well as adapting for film Ian McEwan’s Atonement and his own play Dangerous Liaisons.

The Son runs at Kiln Theatre from February 20-April, KilnTheatre.com
