Tony Mowbray's starting XI to face Hull City featured two changes to the Sunderland side that started last week's goalless draw at league leaders Burnley. Mowbray recalled two of the three players who - after returning from international duty on the eve of the game - were involved from the bench at Turf Moor.
On-loan Manchester United forward Amad came into the side in place of Alex Pritchard, who was fit to be included amongst the subs despite being a fitness concern during the week. And the second change saw Edouard Michut come into midfield in place of Pierre Ekwah, who was also amongst the subs.
With just those two changes, it meant that Lynden Gooch's man of the match performance against the Clarets saw him retain his place at left-back, with Dennis Cirkin again on the bench. Hull City boss Liam Rosenior also made two changes, in his case to the side that drew 0-0 at home to Rotherham United last weekend.
