Amad names two Manchester United teammates he's close to and the players who helped him after transfer

Amad says he has a good relationship with Manchester United squad members and also named the players who helped him bed in at the club upon his 2021 arrival.

The attacker secured a January transfer from Atalanta two years ago and went on to score his first Reds goal against AC Milan two months later. He racked up nine first-team appearances for the club before his loan spell at Rangers last year.

A tricky time in Scotland ended with a Scottish Cup final start and victory after not featuring at all in the club’s run to the Europa League final. Amad returned to United and featured several times for Erik ten Hag in last summer’s pre-season tour.

He is now flourishing on loan at Sunderland, where he has 11 goals and three assists in 34 appearances. He has become a crucial part of Tony Mowbray’s set-up with the Black Cats boss glad United decided against recalling him in January amid his good form.

At 18-years-old, Amad’s transfer from Atalanta cost an initial £19m with this fee potentially rising to £37m. Amad, now 20, has reflected on first arriving at United and how he was in awe at some of the big stars he was training alongside. He also identified two current players he attains a good relationship with.

The striker told FourFourTwo: "I know it [the transfer] was a lot of money, but I didn’t really think about that; there’s no reason to worry about things you can’t influence. I was so happy to sign for Manchester United, it’s a club with a massive history, famous all around the world.

“I remember my first training session after I joined. I was very nervous; there were some huge stars in the dressing room and I was looking around thinking, ‘Wow, I can’t believe I’m here’.

"Paul Pogba and Edinson Cavani were at the club at the time and it was fantastic to meet them. I have a good friendship with Pogba, and also with Bruno Fernandes and Anthony Elanga. They all made me feel welcome. It was incredible to make my debut against Real Sociedad [on February 18, 2021] in the Europa League, too.”
