Manchester United winger Amad has apologised to supporters after he fluffed his lines on a golden opportunity for the team in the draw with Young Boys.
United brought their Champions League group stage campaign to a close on Wednesday as they were held 1-1 by the visiting Swiss outfit.
With United already safely through to the knock-out stages in top spot, Ralf Rangnick took the opportunity to make 11 changes to the starting XI and get a good look at the rest of his squad, with Amad being one of the beneficiaries.
It looked as though they were in for a comfortable evening, too, after Mason Greenwood acrobatically volleyed in Luke Shaw's cross after just nine minutes.
United continued to dominate in a surprisingly high-tempo match and had plenty of chances to extend their lead.
One of which fell to Amad after United sprung a brilliant counterattack with some quick, incisive passing. The ball was eventually worked to the Ivorian on the left, who dummied past a defender to advance on goal and had Jesse Lingard and Donny van de Beek in support in a 3-on-1 situation.
However, with a goal looking certain, Amad messed up his pass to Lingard and the danger was cleared.
Juan Mata and Anthony Elanga would also go on to miss good chances before Fabian Rieder intercepted a sloppy Van de Beek pass and bent the ball into the top corner.
The score stayed the same for the second-half and Amad has now moved to apologise for his mistake, even though the teenager otherwise put in a bright display.
"I’m truly sorry to have missed my chance in the first half," he wrote on Instagram. "I should have finished it differently. We always learn for the future.
"Always thanks for the support."
Despite the draw, it was still a good evening for United as Rangnick got to run the rule over every available member of his squad - including third-choice goalkeeper Tom Heaton - and several of the academy's promising youngsters got a runout.
The only downside was an injury to Aaron Wan-Bissaka after the final whistle which saw him stretchered off the field and has now made him a doubt for Saturday's trip to Norwich City.
