Amad Diallo's Man Utd transfer points to increased authority for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will hope to be able to point to any future success enjoyed by Amad Diallo as one of the reasons why he should remain as Manchester United manager.

The teenage winger will complete his move from Atalanta to Old Trafford in an initial £23m deal in January, after the club last week confirmed that he had the necessary documents in place in order to make the switch.

Diallo was one of four new names unveiled by United on the final day of the summer transfer window, although given his age and the fact he has remained in Italy until now then he has been regarded as the lowest profile of the quartet.

Edinson Cavani and Alex Telles have both settled in to Solskjaer's first-team plans, with Cavani netting three goals in 11 appearances and Telles slotting in impressively at left-back.

The third new signing, young winger Facundo Pellistri, has slotted into United's under-23s team as he bids to build up his experience of playing in England.

It is likely that the exciting Diallo will follow the same path after he excelled in Atalanta's youth setup after making five appearances for the senior side across the last two seasons.

United could end up paying up to £40m for Diallo, but Solskjaer has high hopes for him having managed to tempt him away from joining Serie A giants Juventus.

The United manager's pulling power - or perceived lack thereof - has been seen as a potential stumbling block to his long-term future in the Old Trafford dugout, but if he can turn Diallo into a valuable first-team player then that'll have to be seen as a big win for the Norwegian.
