Alyssa Milano calls for sex strike to protest anti-abortion bill: 'There are lots of alternatives to cis men'

Alyssa is the boss.

The activist, fashion icon and "Who's the Boss" star Alyssa Milano wants to remind the world that she is her own boss. And also that all women should be the sole boss of their own bodies.

To protest Georgia's so-called heartbeat bill, one of the country's most restrictive abortion laws that was signed into law by Gov. Brian Kemp, the 46-year-old actress has opted for a non-traditional approach: a sex strike.

Late Friday evening, Milano took to twitter to call her followers to join her on her sex-denying war against cisgender males. "JOIN ME by not having sex until we get bodily autonomy back," she wrote.

On Saturday she added that "History shows that a #sexstrike is surprisingly effective," and retweeted a story by Quartz to back her claim up. The story starts with a quote by Janelle Monae: "People have to start respecting the vagina," she said. "Until every man is fighting for our rights, we should consider stopping having sex."

The "heartbeat bill" prohibits abortion once a fetal heartbeat can be detected, around six weeks into pregnancy, which is often before women know they are pregnant. Critics say that the law is basically a total ban on the procedure _ and it gets dangerously close to an overturn of Roe v. Wade.

On Thursday, film and TV executives Mark Duplass of Duplass Brothers Productions, Christine Vachon of Killer Films and David Simon of Blown Deadlines Productions blasted the new legislation, and announced that their production companies would not shoot in Georgia in response to the law.

Milano was among more than 100 Hollywood heavyweights who signed a letter opposing the bill in April. Fellow entertainers include Brie Larson, Natalie Portman, Laverne Cox, Ben Stiller and Lena Waithe.
