A golden opportunity.

That was the pre-match view of Nottingham Forest’s supporters making their way to the City Ground for Wednesday’s night clash with Reading.

Sabri Lamouchi opted to make just the one change from Sunday’s win over Luton with Sammy Ameobi coming in for Albert Adomah, while there was no place for new loan signing Adama Diakhaby having arrived a day earlier from Huddersfield.

A win for Forest could see them move third in the table, but just two points behind Leeds in second and three adrift of leaders West Brom, so the excitement on Trentside was palpable ahead of kick-off under the lights.

That is the carrot for Lamouchi’s men against a Reading side they faced just 10 days ago at the Madejski Stadium, when it looked like Ben Watson’s 96 minute goal would be enough for a dramatic win, until Tobias Figueiredo prodded into his own net a minute later.
