'Always a way' - Sheffield United issue interesting update on Billy Sharp amid Nottingham Forest link

Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder has given a fresh update on Billy Sharp's future.

Nottingham Forest have been linked with a move for the striker, who has a prolific track record in the Championship, during the January transfer window.

"I had another chat with Billy this week and mentioned another club that made an enquiry about him," said Wilder.

"Again, I'm not surprised. I'm always looking at other groups and who's not playing, so it makes sense that other clubs do the same to us.

"We'd always ask the question and rightly so, and a few clubs have about Bill.

"It's always Bill’s choice what happens."

Sharp has only started once for the Blades in the Premier League so far this season, making a further 11 sub appearances.

"I'm happy with the forwards I’ve got. We've got five and we play two up top, which leaves two on the bench and one fighting to get into the group," added Wilder.

"I won't leave myself light but as always, the decision is Bill’s."

“The message from him is that he wants to stay," he continued.

“But you can never say never. If he gets offered a three-year deal somewhere and decides he has to take it, we’ll facilitate that.

“But no-one has done that just yet. There’s always a way to get to Bill through the back door, that’s the way football works, but he’s been up front with me and I’ve been up front with him.”
