'Always a fan': Erling Haaland transfer question asked to Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has admitted he is a fan of both Erling Haaland and Dayot Upamecano but says he will be keeping his transfer dealings behind closed doors.

Haaland earlier this week gave an explosive interview over Borussia Dortmund's underachievement so far this season, which has increased speculation he could depart the Bundesliga at the end of the season.

Manchester United have tried to sign the prolific striker in the past but missed out in January 2020 when he opted for a move to Dortmund.

United have also been credited with a longstanding interest in RB Leipzig defender Upamecano, who is one of Europe's leading centre-backs.

With Tuchel's links to his native Germany well known, both players have been linked to Stamford Bridge since the 47-year-old was appointed as Frank Lampard's successor last month.

Yet, speaking to Football.London, the former PSG manager said he will not be conducting his transfer business in public, despite being a fan of both players.

"I can understand your interest in the question and the interest of every fan and supporter to talk about these subjects," Tuchel said.

"I am always a fan and am interested in what’s going on. But now it is February and there is a long way to go.

"As you get to know me, you will know I will not talk about other players publicly when are under contract. This is the type of respect we show to them but also to our own players.

"We think about our central defenders and strikers first and push them to the limits. Everything else will be decided behind closed doors. I’m sorry."
