Alvaro Morata perfectly describes what it is like to face Liverpool star Virgil van Dijk

Atletico Madrid striker Alvaro Morata has explained why Liverpool star Virgil van Dijk is difficult to play against.

The Reds centre-back has been a revelation since his £75m move from Southampton in 2018.

Van Dijk has helped the club win three major trophies in the last 12 months, as well as winning individual awards for his performances in 2018/19, and being on the three-man shortlist for the Ballon D’Or.

Morata recently faced Van Dijk in Atletico’s Champions League last-16 tie against Liverpool last month.

The former Chelsea striker netted his side’s third goal in the second leg at Anfield to knock the Reds out of the competition, after the La Liga outfit won the tie 4-2 on aggregate.

Despite the victory, Morata has outlined what it feels like to face Van Dijk, after being asked for the three toughest defenders he has faced in his career.

“[Giorgio] Chiellini, I don't know if he does it on purpose, but when he meets me, he always destroys me," Morata told Spanish news outlet AS.

"Sergio Ramos is also a tough defender, while when you go against [Virgil] Van Dijk it seems like you hit a mountain."
