Alvaro Gimenez Celtic transfer mystery as Sky commentator name-drops former Birmingham striker on live TV

Former Birmingham City striker Alvaro Gimenez has been linked with a move to Celtic during an English Championship game.

As the Blues saw off Brentford in their 1-0 opening day win in the English second-tier, the Sky Sports commentator on duty claimed the past St Andrews striker had signed for Neil Lennon's side.

Spanish frontman Gimenez was loaned out by Birmingham last season to Cadiz.

A permanent deal to the promoted side followed in the summer.

But he's reportedly already set for the exit door after being excluded from his side's 23-man squad for the La Liga opener against Osasuna on Saturday night.

Spanish outlet Eldesmarque believe the squad list is a warning to the striker that he must improve his performances for the new season - and that his future is more likely to lie away from the club.

Whether the link turns out to be a slip of the tongue or is something more solid remains to be seen.

But after buying Swiss sharpshooter Albian Ajeti for £5million with Odsonne Edouard, Patryk Klimala and Leigh Griffiths already at the club, it seems unlikely Lennon would move for another forward.
