Alun Wyn Jones to captain Baa-Baas just days after Wales retirement as teams named for star-studded clash with World XV

Alun Wyn Jones will captain the Barbarians this weekend as they take on a World XV at Twickenham.

This Sunday's star-studded clash will see the famous invitational club take on a selection of rugby's finest players, with Eddie Jones coaching the Barbarians and Steve Hansen taking charge of the World XV.

Former Wales skipper Jones announced his sudden retirement from international rugby last week, just over an hour after Justin Tipuric also hung up his boots at Test level.

That means that World rugby's most-capped player won't be seen at the World Cup in France later this year, missing out on the chance of a fifth World Cup.

Last week's announcement has given this weekend's clash a different feel, with it feasibly one of the last times Jones will play in a match on such a big stage.

Certainly, it feels like a fitting tribute to his international career at the very least, regardless of what he does next in the club game, with a second appearance for the Baa-Baas against his first senior side, Swansea RFC, to follow next week.

And, as he prepares to represent the Barbarians for the first time, he'll do so as captain in a side that also contains Wales team-mates Gareth Anscombe and Aaron Wainwright.

Anscombe starts at full-back to accommodate Australia playmaker Quade Cooper, while Wainwright starts on the blindside alongside Kai Yamamoto and Steven Luatua.

Taulupe Faletau had been tipped to feature for the Baa-Baas, but isn't involved.

There's also Welsh interest in the World XV side.

Scarlets prop Wyn Jones starts at loose-head, having missed out on a place in Warren Gatland's World Cup training squad earlier this month.

On the bench, Elliot Dee and Rhys Patchell are also set to feature in the star-studded clash that has seen players drawn from 11 different nations, with former Scarlets fly-half Patchell set to orchestrate a backline that includes the likes of Charles Piutau, Israel Folau and Semi Radradra when he gets on.
