Alun Wyn Jones pictured arriving at Lions' South Africa base 19 days after injury as Gatland addresses skipper's Test chances

Alun Wyn Jones has arrived at the British and Irish Lions' base in South Africa and will feature on Saturday just 21 days after dislocating his shoulder.

After an incredible recovery and proving his fitness with Wales, the Lions' original tour captain arrived in Cape Town on Thursday ahead of the final warm-up match against the Stormers this Saturday.

He was pictured arriving at the Lions' hotel kitted in familiar red, masked up and with accompanying luggage.

His arrival into the Lions camp is not the only one, with Ireland hooker Ronan Kelleher also having made the trip.

Lions head coach Warren Gatland has selected second-row Jones among the replacements for this weekend's game, insisting he needs at least a 20-minute run-out to put himself in the running for the Test series against the Springboks.

Gatland said: "We feel that if he's going to put himself in contention, he needs 20 minutes. So we had that conversation with him. He has travelled and arrived today [Thursday] but if he's in contention for next week, he needs to have a run.

"For a few other players, they have been doubling up a bit so they get an opportunity to rest up."

Jones passed the necessary Covid protocols after the flight.

Gatland added: "We just needed to keep on it and make sure that was done and make sure they got here safely and were fit.

"Then we just looked at the options, spoke to Alun Wyn, spoke to the medical team about the ability to put him on the bench and we decided to do that."
