Alun Wyn Jones beaten in final vote to find best rugby captain in the world

He got the better of Wales in their gripping Rugby World Cup semi-final showdown at the Yokohama Stadium last October.

Now Springboks skipper Siya Kolisi has added another feather in his international cap by being voted the World's Best Captain from rugby fans on the popular rugby365 website.

The game's most respected skippers went into a series of head-to-head battles before the stellar cast was whittled down to just two names - Kolisi and Wales' talismanic lock Alun Wyn Jones.

Their meeting in the final was far more one-sided than their showdown in Japan last autumn when a 76th-minute penalty from Springboks No.10 Handre Pollard secured a 19-16 victory for Kolisi's side.

Jones' road to the final saw the Ospreys star topple Ireland No.10 Johnny Sexton in the opening round of voting before seeing off surprise package, Frenchman Charles Ollivon, in the semi-final stage of the northern hemisphere division.

Kolisi beat Argentina's Pablo Matera and then Wallabies skipper Michael Hooper to book his final spot with Jones.

It was an emphatic win for the Stormers back-rower in the final with Kolisi polling 82 per cent of the vote.

For Jones there is the crumb of comfort that fans have him as the best captain in northern hemisphere rugby.

And at a time when the Welshman has his backers to lead the 2021 British and Irish Lions tour to the reigning Rugby World Cup champions, when Kolisi will be lying in wait yet again.
