Alton Towers Smiler crash victim Vicky Balch buys home after payout

A woman who lost her leg in a rollercoaster crash at Alton Towers has revealed she has bought her first home.

Beautician Vicky Balch was one of 16 people injured when an empty carriage was stranded on the track of ride Smiler back in June 2015.

She has previously described the "stressful and depressing" journey to get compensation.

But last month the 24-year-old finally received a multi-million pound payout for her horrific injuries.

Merlin, owners of Alton Towers, settled her claim against them and it meant Vicky could 'finally get on with life'.

And she has wasted no time - buying her first home with fiancé Dino Manciocchi, Mirror Online reports.

Posting on Instagram she said: "Can't contain my excitement anymore!!! @dinomanciocchi love you babe".

A picture shows a card congratulating her on her new home and three sets of keys, two for cars and one which appears to be for the front door.

Vicky has spoken previously about the stress of trying to reach a settlement with Merlin which included having to answer distressing questions such as how many children she hoped to have and how the injury would affect her life as part of the process.

The payout is earmarked for a lifetime of physio, treatment and prosthetics.

Artificial limbs can cost £80,000 each and need replacing every few years.

Alton Towers’ owner Merlin Entertainments said last month: “We’re pleased to have reached a settlement and wish Vicky the very best for her wedding.

"Due to the complex nature of Vicky’s case, it was not possible to reach a settlement until now. Interim payments and support have been provided.”
