Alton Towers reveals opening dates for theme park, waterpark and hotels amidst roadmap

Alton Towers Resort has revealed its plans for reopening its theme park, waterpark and hotels following Boris Johnson's announcement for England's lockdown roadmap.

The Staffordshire-based resort is set to reopen its theme park from April 12, as part of the 'Step Two' phase in the roadmap which allows outdoor attractions to reopen.

As self-contained accommodation can also reopen from this date, the resort's Woodland Lodges accommodation will also be open. (However it's worth noting you can only stay in these with members of your own household, and no shared indoor facilities such as restaurants and bars will be open).

The resort's hotels, waterpark and spa are currently set to reopen from May 17 in line with the 'Step three' phrase of the lockdown roadmap.

In the meantime, the Alton Towers Gardens will be open daily from March 29 through to April 11 for those living in the local area, although pre-booking tickets will be essential.

Alton Towers has a number of hygiene and safety measures in place including "temperature checks on arrival, enhanced cleaning, one-way systems, and social distancing markers in our ride queues, shops, restaurants and more".

A statement on its website said the attraction would "continue to review and follow and local authorities and central Government advice" around reopening.

Pre-booking for the theme park will be necessary before heading to the theme park, as it's operating at a reduced capacity. (Those who had theme park tickets booked before April 12 will be offered the option to rebook to a later date).

You can find out more about the openings and what to do if you had a trip booked on altontowers.com.

We also have a wider guide on when theme parks plan to reopen following the roadmap news, including the likes of Thorpe Park, Legoland and Drayton Manor.

It's worth noting that the roadmap is being guided by data not dates, so while there are some key dates announced by Boris Johnson these could be subject to change.
