Alton Towers Nemesis revamp underway as new track delivered

New photos of Nemesis at Alton Towers show how the revamp is now well underway - six months after it closed to the public. The rollercoaster operated for the last time on November 6, 2022 before shutting temporarily.

This was so it could be repainted and the entire track could be replaced, Derby Telegraph reports. And just days ago, a convoy of heavy duty lorries arrived carrying the brand new track, which is black with red "vein" detailing, in contrast to the previous white design seen on the ride.

Nemesis is scheduled to open again next year - the ride weighs 250 tonnes and is 716 metres long. It will have been out of action for almost a year and a half by the time it's ready for thrill-seekers to ride again. But Alton Towers representatives ensure it will be worth the wait.

In the meantime, an observation platform has opened at the theme park so up to 30 people at any one time can watch the operation to refurbish the ride take place. Nemesis opened in 1994 as the UK's first inverted rollercoaster.

Bianca Sammut, Divisional Director at Alton Towers Resort, said: "As Europe’s first ever inverted rollercoaster, Nemesis rightly holds legendary status among thrillseekers. At Alton Towers Resort we’re committed to providing visitors with stand-out attractions that are unmatched by anyone else.

"Reaching this latest milestone in the transformation of Nemesis is a proud moment for everyone involved in the project. And for all thrillseekers out there it means the day we can take the wraps off our thrilliant revamp is edging ever closer. Stay alert for more developments.”
