Alton Towers crash amputee Leah Washington engaged to boyfriend Joe Pugh

Alton Towers crash amputee Leah Washington has revealed she is engaged to boyfriend Joe Pugh.

Taking to Instagram on Monday morning, Leah shared the happy news with her 25,900 followers.

Posting a snap of herself alongside Joe, the South Yorkshire star beamed as she showed off her new engagement ring.

"So this happened yesterday… I SAID YES," she revealed to her online fans.

In another snap, she reveals Joe popped the question during a romantic getaway to Italy - showing off her ring finger against a backdrop of Venice.

Former Geordie Shore star Charlotte Crosby was one of the many celebrities to congratulate the newly-engaged 24-year-old on the happy news.

Daisy Tomlinson - sister of former One Direction star Louis Tomlinson - also commented on the cute update, writing: "Congratulations beautiful couple."

Joe also shared the news online, telling his Instagram followers: "What a great end to a long weekend in Venice… SHE SAID YES."

Leah was one of five people who were seriously injured when Alton Towers rollercoaster The Smiler crashed in June 2015.

The then-teenager, from Barnsley in South Yorkshire, was on the ride with boyfriend Joe and had to have her left leg amputated above the knee following the horror smash.

The pair were sitting at the front of their roller coaster carriage when it rammed into a stationary car at 50mph.

Joe and Leah had only been going out for four days when the horror accident happened on The Smiler rollercoaster.

Last year, the happy couple revealed they had bought their first home together after several years together - sharing snaps of their Yorkshire bungalow to their fans online.

Since being involved in the horrifying Alton Towers incident in 2015, Leah has embarked on a modelling career - including being named the new face of lingerie brand Pour Moi last year.

In March 2021, the social media influencer revealed she was back on her 'blade' prosthetic after six months off due to ongoing hip pain.

"Throughout my time as a amputee I’ve been cast numerous time due to shrinkage, weight loss or gain and revision surgery," she told her Instagram followers at the time.

"They basically take a cast of your stump (little leg as I like to call it) and create a socket from that cast, the socket is how they connect your stump to the prosthetic leg."

She continued: "They make a clear "check" socket so they can see how your stump is sitting in the socket. This way they can make adjustments by melting and reshaping the socket before creating the finished product.

"This is done as and when required and usually takes around 20 minutes to do. So yeah just a little insight I thought I’d share on the process of sockets & prosthetics as it’s not a one size fits all kinda thing."
