Alton Towers confirms major rollercoaster closed until further notice

Alton Towers has confirmed that one of its most iconic rides has shut.

Theme park bosses have said that The Wicker man rollercoaster is closed until further notice, reports Derbyshire Live.

It is not known how long the ride will be shut for, but staff have said they will be working on getting it re-open as soon as possible.

A spokesperson for Alton Towers Resort said: "Wicker Man is undergoing maintenance and is currently unavailable. We are working to open it as soon as possible. We apologise to our guests for any inconvenience caused.”

Derbyshire Live asked Alton Towers if it can provide more information about the work taking place and the reasons why it has closed during a traditionally busy period.

The rollercoaster opened in September last year.

The six-story wooden ride, which features an impressive human face on one side and ram’s head on the other, was in development for the last four years before it opened to the public.

Yesterday, a woman wrote a comment on the Alton Towers Facebook page which said: "Wicker Man been closed since Thursday we went then went again on Saturday with kids, still closed."
