Alternative technology centre in Wales appoints new chief at 'pivotal time for planet'

The new chief executive officer of the Centre for Alternative Technology (CAT) in Wales says he is joining the organisation at "a pivotal time for our planet".

CAT, based near Machynlleth, offers practical solutions and hands-on learning to help create a zero carbon world.

Its new chief executive is Peter Tyldesley who is currently CEO at the Bradgate Park Trust, a conservation charity.

He has substantial experience in leadership and management, both directly and through his non-executive roles on charity and partnership boards.

His previous roles include a range of appointments in Wales, including with Brecon Beacons National Park.

He takes up his new role in early September and brings to CAT a strong personal commitment to sustainability and the environment, as well as to education.

“Having been a supporter of CAT’s work for many years, I am honoured and excited to be joining the organisation at a pivotal time for our planet,” said Mr Tyldesley.

“If we are to tackle dangerous climate change and other pressing environmental issues, we need to urgently roll out solutions. I’m looking forward to joining such a forward-looking and visionary organisation.”

CAT’s chair of trustees, Mick Taylor said: “CAT’s environmental education and research work has never been more important, with the need for urgent action on climate change making it essential that more people gain knowledge, skills and understanding in environmental solutions.

“Peter’s leadership experience and commitment to sustainability make him ideally placed to lead the organisation at this crucial time.”
