Alternative league table gives Tottenham a boost as plans for letting Spurs fans back in revealed

Here is your Tottenham Hotspur morning digest for Saturday, November 28.

The alternative table that favours Spurs ahead of derby date

Chelsea welcome Tottenham Hotspur to Stamford Bridge this weekend in what could be one of the games of the season in the Premier League.

Frank Lampard has had the edge over Jose Mourinho in recent clashes, but the table that shows the all-time results against fellow clubs from the capital favours Tottenham over the Blues.

Remarkably, only three points separate Chelsea and Spurs, with the latter picking up 1,244 points across their history and the latter on 1,241 points. Arsenal top the standings on 1,303 points in their history.

West Ham United, Fulham and Charlton Athletic are the next three in the table, but the Hammers are more than 200 points behind Chelsea in fourth place.

Klopp provides verdict on Spurs and Chelsea title challenge

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp says he isn’t surprised at the strong start to the season enjoyed by both Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur.

The two London sides clash at Stamford Bridge this weekend, with both sides looking to mount a title challenge. Klopp insists he has not been caught off guard by Chelsea and Tottenham’s quality and expects a difficult title race.

“There’s a lot of quality in these squads and with the managers,” Klopp said in his press conference ahead of Liverpool’s Premier League fixture against Brighton on Saturday. “A lot of good work is done on the training ground.

“They all played so far a really good season. I’m not surprised that Tottenham or Chelsea are where they are. Southampton look really, really good too and we know how good Leicester are. It’s a sign that the teams are close together this year.

“It’s a very difficult but interesting season for everybody. There’s chances there for all the teams and it’s nothing to do with what you achieved last year.”

Why Spurs will have advantage when fans are allowed back in

Tottenham Hotspur are among the clubs preparing to welcome fans back into their stadium once new government guidelines on the coronavirus pandemic come into force next week.

London will be placed in Tier 2 of the new localised Covid-19 restrictions, meaning clubs will be permitted to allow up to 2,000 fans into stadiums for home fixtures. The North London derby on December 6 could therefore see supporters back at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for the first time since March.

As football.london’s Alasdair Gold details, Spurs could stand to gain more of an advantage than most through the presence of fans in the stands again such is the design of the club’s new single-tier 17,500-seater south stand.

The stand was built with acoustics in mind. So while 2,000 fans inside a stadium that can hold over 60,000 spectators ordinarily might not make that much noise, Tottenham’s players will likely be roared on by their fanbase.
