KOLHAPUR: The Kolhapur Municipal Corporation (KMC) has decided to initiate alternate day water cuts for indefinite period in the city.
A, B and E wards of the city depend on Shingnapur pumping station for water supply. E ward is the most populous ward of the city and vast too.
The pumping station is currently operating at 50% of its capacity due to technical glitches. Four of the eight motor pumps are out of order and the engineers of KMC will require some time to repair the pumps.
Ajay Salokhe, chief hydraulics engineer of KMC, said, “A and B wards will receive water on Wednesday and thereafter, every alternate day. E ward will receive water on Thursday and subsequent alternate days. We have arranged water tankers to provide to the major localities. We however appeal the citizens to not waste water and use it judiciously.”
