Altar cloth made from Queen Elizabeth I's dress goes on display at Hampton Court Palace

An altar cloth believed to have been made from a dress worn by Queen Elizabeth I will go on display at Hampton Court Palace this weekend.

The material, which was kept for centuries in a church in rural Herefordshire, is going on show after three years of conservation work by experts.

It is believed to have to come to the church in the village of Bacton from one of the monarch’s most faithful servants, Blanche Parry, who was born and raised there.

Eleri Lynn, collections curator at Historic Royal Palaces, said: “After three-years of painstaking conservation and research, we’re thrilled to finally be putting this exquisite object on display at Hampton Court Palace, Elizabeth’s former home.”

The dress goes on display from October 12 until February 23.
