Alshon Jeffery questionable for Bears-Packers opener

Sept. 11--Officially, the Bears list top receiver Alshon Jeffery as questionable for their game against the Packers and don't plan to update that status until Sunday morning.

Still, all indications are Jeffery will try to give it a go when the season opens at Soldier Field.

After practicing on a limited basis for three consecutive days, Jeffery has had no significant setbacks with the calf injury that kept him out for four weeks in August and early September.

Coach John Fox said he wants to keep an eye on Jeffery's health through Saturday's walk-through, which under this staff serves more as a light practice.

Fox said he had some difficulty measuring Jeffery's progress after rain on Thursday and Friday morning slickened the practice field.

"Today was a little slippery," Fox noted Friday. "We were probably a little extra cautious just because of the wet grass. ... But he looked pretty good at what he did."

The Bears list their top three receivers as questionable with Eddie Royal (hip) and Marquess Wilson (hamstring) also battling injuries. Jeffery's return would provide a boost.

"Obviously he's a dynamic player on the outside who can do many things," running back Matt Forte said. "That's route-wise or even when he's covered, just go up and get the ball.

"It's no secret what Alshon can do. ... He's been running around (at practice) and doing things. So I'm definitely encouraged about how he's coming along."
