'Already looks wrong' - Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher questions Manchester United signing after Brentford defeat

Ex-Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher says the signing of Lisandro Martínez at Manchester United 'already looks wrong' after they were beaten 4-0 by Brentford on Saturday afternoon.

The Manchester club have had a quiet summer so far with Martinez, Tyrell Malacia and Christian Eriksen their only signings so far. Martinez joined for upwards of £50m from Ajax, but he struggled against Brentford as they put themselves four goals up before half-time.

United were also beaten 2-1 by Brighton last weekend and Carragher believes early signs suggest signing the 24-year-old may have been the wrong move.

He tweeted after the game: "Erik ten Hag has not started well but has a very good pedigree after his record at Ajax in the Champions League, but the signing of Martinez for over 50M already looks wrong!"

Liverpool need to bounce back themselves after they drew 2-2 with Fulham last weekend, Jurgen Klopp will hope his side can record their first league win of the campaign when they welcome Crystal Palace to Anfield on Monday Night Football. Manchester United will be next and the Red Devils have a lot to solve before the visit from Liverpool.

The Merseyside club have concerns of their own at centre-back with Joel Matip a doubt for Monday night's game against the Eagles. With Ibrahima Konate also sidelined through injury, Liverpool will hope Matip's groin problem isn't serious and he's fit to feature against United a week on Monday.
