Already in work: when to join the RAF

We value experience. That's why the majority of our roles – like aerospace battle manager and RAF regiment officer - are open to people up to 36 years old. For some of our more specialist roles (like survival equipment fitter or aircraft technician) the closing age is earlier at 29 years old.

We'll give you the highest standard of specialist training required and you'll learn lots more on the job. We also support all our personnel in gaining recognised civilian qualifications, so if you decide to leave the RAF, you'll be well prepared for your next career.

If you're looking to transfer specialist skills you already have, then we can offer you unique training opportunities and the chance to gain experiences unlike anything you'll find in a civilian career. If you're a whizz under the bonnet of a car, why not try your hand at a Typhoon fast jet? If your forte is organising things, you'll probably do well in Personnel Support.

Perhaps you're looking for something totally different? That's fine too. You don't need a military background or experience to be successful in the RAF. In fact many of our most successful personnel started their careers in a totally different field. As long as you've got determination, enthusiasm and a can-do attitude you'll fit right in.
