The Thailand Philharmonic Orchestra will enchant audiences with the subtle and profound musical intelligence of Beethoven during the "Alpine Adventure" concert at Mahidol University's Prince Mahidol Hall, Salaya campus, tomorrow at 7pm and Saturday at 4pm.
The programme will feature his magnificent Piano Concert No.1 In C Major, Op 15 to be performed by German's lauded pianist Rolf-Dieter Arens, under the baton of his countryman Johannes Klumpp. Both will make a comeback after having joined the orchestra to deliver a German piano repertoire early last year.
The piano concerto will link the music of two seemingly disparate compositions that find common ground in expertly blending philosophical musings with brilliant orchestral virtuosity.
They are Dhumketu by Thai composer Wiwat Suthiyam, who got his inspiration from Thai painter Thawan Duchanee's paintings of fog, mist, and legendary creatures; and An Alpine Symphony, Op 64, one of Richard Strauss's largest orchestral works, inspired by his love of the mountains.
Rolf-Dieter Arens has worked with some of the most brilliant conductors of our times, including Kurt Mazur and Sir Neville Marriner, while young maestro Johannes Klumpp is a rising star whose performances have led critics to hail his work as "precise, rousing and deeply personal".
