Alphonso Davies says he tried to swap shirts with Lionel Messi after Bayern Munich's 8-2 demolition of Barcelona, but the Argentine was too "upset".
Bundesliga champions Bayern embarrassed the Catalan giants in the quarter final of the Champions League on Friday night.
Canadian left-back Davies is a big fan of Messi, and was hoping to swap shirts with the six-time Ballon d'Or winner following the match, regardless of the result.
But Barcelona were left so humiliated by Bayern Munich, it seems Messi, 34, just wanted to get off the pitch after the final whistle.
"I asked for it [Messi's shirt], revealed Davies, who spoke to the press after Bayern's 3-0 win over Lyon in the semi-final on Wednesday. "But I think he was a little bit upset. Next time, maybe."
Davies also spoke out about Messi ahead of playing against him for the first team last week.
He said: "Honestly, I'm lost for words – a dream come true.
"My mum called me yesterday and then my dad hopped on the phone, and he was like: 'So you're playing against your favourite player, I see.'
"And I went: 'Yeah.' And then we both started laughing on the phone.

"And honestly we couldn't even believe it, because he knows that I looked up to Messi when I was younger, and now playing against him, it's really nice.
"Growing up, I used to watch him all the time and now I'm defending against him; it's going to be a whole different ball game."
