Alpaca spits in Phillip Schofield's mouth - leaving Holly in tears on the floor

Holly Willoughby was on the floor in tears of laughter after an alpaca spat in Phillip Schofield face just minutes before they went on air.

As they welcomed viewers to the ITV programme today, Phil gripped the leads of two alpaccas as Holly stood some distance away.

Trying to hide a smile, Holly said: "Just before we came on air, you will see that Pete looked him straight in the eye and spat at him."

Replaying the clip from earlier with Holly, Phil, the alpacas and their handlers, alpacca Pete was seen pulling back, staring at Phil and loudly spitting at him.

Phil flinched and Holly walked back away from the alpacas.

Laughing over the clip, Holly said: "It's one of the best things that I've ever see. What did it feel like?"

"Warm and wet," Phil replied.

Holly still stayed away from them across the studio as Phil cooed at them.

"You're so good," she told him - but then the alpaca began staring at him again.

"Don't look at me like that!" Phil said sternly. "Once is ok but twice in unacceptable."

Holly lost it, crying with laughter as she crumpled on the floor.

She pleaded: "Can we have one day without any animals?!"
