The wait is finally over. Tomorrow, activewear and lifestyle brand ALO is setting foot on Australian soil and opening its first ever retail store in Sydney. While we used to have to hop on a plane to get our hands on the celebrity-approved fashion and yoga brand, that’s no longer the case… unless you’re from another state. Regardless, a plane ticket to Sydney is far cheaper than one to the US!
On May 22, the luxury Los Angeles activewear brand is opening an ‘ALO Sanctuary’ in Chatswood Chase. It’s the start of the brand’s expansion into the Australian market, bringing the LA wellness culture to Australia’s equivalent: Sydney.
And I’ve always said while Melbourne is the New York of Australia, Sydney is the Los Angeles!
“Australia — and Sydney in particular — felt like a natural home for the brand. There is a real movement culture here, a strong sense of community, and a way of life rooted in the outdoors that aligns intuitively with who we are,” ALO’s International CEO Benedetta Petruzzo said in a press release.
This is just the beginning of ALO’s Aussie takeover. In fact, the brand has plans to open three additional ‘sanctuaries’ (what ALO calls their brick and mortar stores) in Australia by the end of 2026. One of these will be another Sydney store, this one in Bondi Junction. However, whether the remaining two will stick to the one city or spread to other states is yet to be announced. I’m putting my bets on the one opening in the Gold Coast, and one in Emporium in Melbourne!
ALO has amassed a cult following over the past few years thanks to it seemingly becoming fashionable celebrities’ activewear brand of choice. The likes of Bella Hadid, Kaia Gerber, Addison Rae, Hailey Bieber and Victoria Beckham have all been papped in the brand. Kylie and Kendall Jenner are regular collaborators with the brand, and even have a dedicated page on the website for their top picks.
And while celebrities have been wearing the luxury activewear brand for years, it’s not until recently that the obsession trickled down to us regular folk. Lululemon used to be dominate the luxury athleisure world, but ALO has risen to be a worthy competitor, heavily influenced by content creators posting in their activewear sets.
The brand also teased its launch in Australia by hosting a mysterious Pilates class in Sydney. Influencers including Sopha Dopha and Jacquie Alexander vlogged themselves attending the class, surrounded by other content creators also donning black and white ALO sets.

The brand didn’t post anything to confirm the store opening, but people who have been following closely along now have answers: they can shop ALO in real life without having to book a holiday.
Up until now, while it hasn’t been impossible to access ALO’s range in Australia, it’s been pretty darn expensive. A sports bra can cost up to $148 AUD (yes, just the bra), and on top of that, the shipping fee is $23 on orders under $110.
So, if ALO is expanding its global presence to include little ol’ Australia, maybe that means online shipping will be cheaper, too? For all of us non-Sydney ALO fans, I sure hope so.
