Alnwick Treehouse wins Loo of the Year award with the highest honours

The Alnwick Garden has every reason to feel flushed with success following news that its Treehouse has won a Loo of the Year award.

The accolade came following an unannounced visit to the Northumberland attraction's popular tree top restaurant by a trained Loo of the Year Awards inspector.

And the inspector was so impressed with the toilet stop-off that the result earned the Treehouse the highest-possible platinum award.

The facilities in the Treehouse have walls designed to blend into the surroundings by resembling tree bark while the ceiling is set with twinkling lights to add a touch of drama.

The disabled toilet's design is complemented by natural materials such as stone tiles, grey woodwork and a marble sink.

The idea behind the Loo of the Year Awards is to celebrate the provision of the best 'away from home' facilities at tourist sites around the country.

The Alnwick Garden has already proved its toilet credentials in the past, having been singled out for an award in 2017 .

And it is delighted at having had success this time with its Treehouse.

The award follows recent news that the Treehouse has now become the biggest in the world, in the wake of the burning down of the previous record-setter in Crossville Tennessee in October.

Garden director Mark Brassell said: "The Treehouse is a magical place and that means that the whole experience has to be reflective of that.

"There is nothing worse than visiting somewhere special and finding that the toilets are awful or that the soap has run out."
