And stop off at Aln Valley Railway where guided tours will include visits to the engine shed, workshops and signal box, all of which are normally closed to the public.

Also, as part of the Heritage Open Day, you can visit Alnwick Masonic Centre which will be opening its doors to show off the giant oak sideboard called 'the Chevy Chase'.

The sideboard is one of the country’s finest examples of 19th century woodcarving with some exquisite detail hidden in the piece.

Carved in 1889 by renowned artist Gerard Robinson, it depicts the hunting scene from the famous ballad.

There will be two lectures discussing the sideboard during the day, at 11.30am and 1.30pm - as well as lectures on the history of the building at 10.30am and 2.30pm.

A display of the building’s Masonic treasures with links to the town will also take place, and some of the Brethren of the Lodges who meet in the town will be available to talk about Freemasonry with visitors.

Visitors are urged to wear a mask inside the building.
