Almost all countries to be taken off UK travel ban list - with just 9 left

Almost all countries are to be taken off the UK's travel red lists - leaving just nine 'banned' countries which would force you into quarantine if you had visited, according to reports.

The green and amber lists have already been scrapped in new rules coming into force on Monday, meaning people who have both vaccine jabs are free to travel to most world destinations without having to quarantine for 10 days when they get home.

Expensive PCR testing for travellers looks set to be replaced with cheaper lateral flow testing by the end of this month.

Now The Telegraph says the 54 countries on the red list - which the Government says you should not visit - will be cut down to just nine.

That will mean holidays to places like South Africa, Brazil, Mexico and Indonesia will be back on.

The changes are set to be announced on Thursday - and it is unclear whether Thailand will be taken off the red list.

They will come into force in time to book holidays for the school half-term at the end of the month, the reports say.

A Whitehall source told the Sunday Telegraph that the aim now is that the government’s travel policy is “unnecessarily” restrictive.
