Almost a third of people not following Tier 3 rules survey finds

A survey carried out by the ECHO revealed almost a third of respondents were not following strict Tier 3 restrictions placed on the Liverpool City Region.

The survey was carried out after the announcement that the controversial ban on gyms being opened was to be lifted.

It found that 67% of those who took part in the survey were following the Tier 3 restrictions, which prohibits people from socialising with anybody they do not live with, or have not formed a support bubble with, in any indoor setting, private garden or at most outdoor hospitality venues.

A large majority (61%) also agreed with allowing gyms to be opened.

This removed the anomaly where Liverpool City Region was the only area placed in Tier 3 to forbid this activity.

The u-turn brought Liverpool into line with other areas such as Lancashire and Greater Manchester - where gyms were excluded from the restrictions.

A total of 59% of those surveyed said gyms should never have been closed in the first place. The closure also scored highest in being the most ineffective measure in controlling the spread of coronavirus (at 49%).

The measure which gained the highest approval rating (at 34%) was closing pubs and bars.

While there was also general approval for keeping schools and universities, and churches, open, there was no appetite for local restrictions being extended to other businesses or settings - with 54% saying they were against it.

And in terms of any of the existing measures being overturned, the answer that scored the highest (at 27%) was none of them.
