Almost €9,000 raised for family of tragic Cork girl Emmy Eckert, 5, who drowned while on holiday in Germany

The dad of  Cork girl Emmy Eckert has thanked people for their support after the five-year-old's tragic death.

Emmy, from Ballincollig, passed away after an accident at a lake just in Germany last week while on a family holiday.

The little girl was a student at Scoil Mhuire Ballincollig, Co Cork, with staff and students shocked by the news which broke on Thursday morning.

A Gofundme page has already raised almost €9,000 for the family as they near their goal of €12,000, Cork Beo reports.

Emmy's father Andreas wrote on the page: "We would like to thank you for this wonderful support. It is a blessing to have you all. Love, Andreas and Darlene."

A text alert was sent out to parents of Emmy's classmates yesterday when the school staff found out about the tragic incident.
