Almost 70 homes given go-ahead by busy road in Kirkby-in-Ashfield

Plans for almost 70 homes to be built near a busy road in Kirkby-in-Ashfield have been given the green light.

The plans were given the go-ahead by Ashfield District Council’s planning committee last week (August 18) and will see the construction of 69 dwellings off Clare Road.

Developers Westerman put forward the application for the site, which will be sandwiched between Kings Mill Road (A38) and Leamington Road.

The plans come after the company’s recent completion of the Larwood Development. The two sites are to be connected by a public right of way and bridal path.

As part of the decision of approval, developers have been asked to make a £136,397 contribution towards primary education, £138,000 towards public open space and £37,389 towards healthcare in the area.

A provision of seven homes (10 per cent) must also be set aside for affordable housing.

Trees within the “central core” of the location are to be felled to make way for the homes, however the committee report, submitted prior to the decision, states that trees on the southern boundary “would be retained to provide a verdant buffer between the development and the A38”.

The report adds: “The impact upon highways safety, the amenity of local residents, biodiversity, flooding and landscape have all been assessed and considered acceptable.”
